改めて演説聴くと、半分寝た状態で上ずった興奮抑えられな過ぎの同時通訳付で聴いたのと、大分、というか全く印象が違うなぁ……。
こういう場合のお手本、ペリクレスの葬送演説の現代版だなぁ。やっぱり。
で、冒頭いきなり「My fellow citizens」って、ケネディ演説のアレなんだよな、たぶん。
その一言で、事実上、まずアメリカ人に「ask not what your country can do for you
And so, my fellow Americans, ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country.
My fellow citizens of the world, ask not what America will do for you, but what together we can do for the freedom of man.
ask what you can do for your country」を《言うまでも無く》語りかけているという。
《言わない》ことで、《当然にその意識をもっている皆に、私は語りかけているのだ》ということを言っていて。
また、これから延々、アメリカの再生について演説は述べるのだけれど、アメリカ国民以外にも「ask not what America will do for you, but what together we can do for the freedom of man.」と冒頭の一言で呼びかけている。
あと、適当ですみませんが、
「我々はいまだ若い国家だ。だが、聖書の言葉を借りれば「幼子らしいこと」をやめる時が来た（We remain a young nation, but in the words of Scripture, the time has come to set aside childish things. ）。」とあるのは、
「童の時は 語ることも童の如く 思うことも童の如く 論ずることも童の如くなりしが 人と成りては 童のことを捨てたり」という、某アニメ映画でやたらと巧く使われてた「コリント人への第一の手紙」のアレかな。
なんですか、「アメリカ幼年期の終わり」？
しかし。アメリカはyoungでnewな担い手で、（南北戦争や人種差別を経て、それらを乗り超えつつ）historyの正しい側に居続けて来て、それを次のgenerationsにも受け継いでいくのだ云々とゆー趣旨はなかなかに凄まじいなぁ。
To those who cling to power through corruption and deceit and the silencing of dissent,…なんてのは、実にアメリカンな話だなー。
know that you are on the wrong side of history; but that we will extend a hand if you are willing to unclench your fist.
そして、
What is required of us now is a new era of responsibility - a recognition, on the part of every American, that we have duties to ourselves, our nation, and the world, duties that we do not grudgingly accept but rather seize gladly, firm in the knowledge that there is nothing so satisfying to the spirit, so defining of our character, than giving our all to a difficult task.どうも、destinyはuncertinで（manifestなものではなく）、certainなのは、そのuncertainなdestinyを形作るべく、アメリカ人は召命を受けた存在だということなのだそうで。This is the price and the promise of citizenship.
This is the source of our confidence - the knowledge that God calls on us to shape an uncertain destiny.
（新しい責務を果たすべき時代だ。我々米国人一人ひとりが、自分自身や国家や世界に義務を負っていることを認識し、こうした義務を嫌々ではなく、喜んで受け入れることだ。私たちにとって、困難な仕事に全力で立ち向かうことほど、自らの性格を定義し、精神をみたすものはない。これが市民であることの代償と約束だ。これが私たちの自信の源泉だ。神が未知の運命を自らの手で形作るよう、我々に求めたものだ。）
フロンティア・スピリットから、アメリカ流のcitizenshipへ。それがChangeの中核だということなのかなー？
で、Changeの後に受け入れるべき「新しい責務」について強く語っている、選挙中の演説からの変化で、この演説の中核でもあるところのこの下りって、改めてみてもやっぱり、ペリクレス演説だなー、と。
